The
Evansville State Hospital is a psychiatric hospital founded in 1890 on
Evansville's east side. Like most of Indiana?s state hospitals, the
Evansville facility was created in an out-of-the way place on the
city?s east side and given a peaceful campus-like design. The original
historic buildings have been demolished, but what's left is a wonderful
peaceful park / recreational area

The Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Association is turning a
corner of the Evansville State Hospital property into a colorful garden
spot.
The project will contain a dozen or so different garden areas meant to
educate and inspire.
Richard Kincaid of the Southwestern Indiana Master Gardener Association
is framed by an old log cabin as he weeds the vegetable garden on the
1.2-acre display garden. All produce grown in the display garden is
donated to the local food bank. Last year, the garden produced 3,000
pounds of produce.
