About the Trail System
Grapevine Lake offers a network of natural-surface trails for mountain biking and hiking. Routes wind through woods around the lake, combining scenic views with roots, short climbs, tight turns, and rolling terrain.
Published route descriptions identify an approximately 8-mile longer connected outing. Shorter options are available through different loop choices, so your total distance depends on the route you follow.
The surrounding lake area also offers fishing and paddle-sport opportunities, making Grapevine a destination for more than trail recreation.
Loops & Riding Features
A Loop / Blue Loop
Published trail descriptions identify A Loop as the Blue Loop. It starts near the parking area and heads into the woods, with roots, rolling terrain, and route choices toward the parking area or lake.
B Loop / Yellow Loop
B Loop includes longer and shorter route options. A published route description identifies a yellow-blazed longer option and a red-blazed shorter option.
Trail names, markings, and routing can change. Follow current on-site signs and consult the latest available map.
DinnerTable & SnakePit
Southwest Kentucky Mountain Bike Association identifies DinnerTable and SnakePit as two flow lines added during improvements to the trail system. The work also included sustainable cross-country routing, drainage, berms, and rollers.
Flow lines and technical features are not the same as an easy walking path. Review current signs and inspect unfamiliar features before riding them.
Terrain & Difficulty
MTB Project rates its published Grapevine Lake mountain-bike route as intermediate. Expect uneven natural surfaces, roots, off-camber turns, short technical climbs, small bridges, and gravel-road crossings.
Madisonville’s tourism office also lists Grapevine as a hiking destination and describes the route as moderately challenging, with wildlife-viewing opportunities and scenic lake views.
A route-level difficulty rating does not describe every feature or alternate line. This guide does not establish accessibility or suitability for a particular visitor.
Conditions & Seasonal Access
Southwest Kentucky Mountain Bike Association asks visitors not to use the trails when muddy. Check conditions before heading out, particularly after rain.
Published access descriptions mention seasonal vehicle-gate closures, but older sources give different closure dates. Confirm current gate and parking arrangements before visiting, especially during colder months.
A closed vehicle gate does not, by itself, confirm whether trail use is allowed. Follow posted restrictions and do not assume nearby private parking is available without permission.
