About the Park
Roberts Park occupies the former Roberts Stadium site on Evansville’s east side, near Wesselman Park.
The Evansville-Area Trails Coalition describes the grounds as a large grassy area used for informal recreation. Its published examples include casual walks, Frisbee, and other lawn activities.
Redevelopment plans have proposed trails and additional facilities. Those proposals should not be treated as confirmation that the features are completed or available.
Walking & Outdoor Recreation
Roberts Park is best described as an open-space destination rather than an established woodland hiking system. It may suit visitors seeking a casual outing in an open park setting.
A measured, completed trail loop was not confirmed for this guide. No verified trail mileage or turn-by-turn route is provided here.
Surface & Accessibility
The available description identifies grassy grounds but does not establish a continuous paved route or provide accessibility measurements.
Do not assume the site has a marked walking loop, an accessible route, or the same trail conditions as nearby wooded recreation areas.
From Roberts Stadium to Parkland
Roberts Stadium hosted basketball games, concerts, high school graduations, and other events for more than 50 years.
The stadium was demolished in 2013, leaving a prominent property near the Lloyd Expressway. The site’s future became the subject of years of park planning and community discussion.
Early concepts proposed trails, fitness stations, wetlands, gathering areas, and other recreation features. These descriptions document planning ideas rather than a completed inventory of park facilities.
Redevelopment Plans
The city revisited the park’s design in 2022 and presented an updated vision for Roberts Park and Wesselman Park in January 2023.
The broader planning effort included green space, reforestation, trails, and recreation improvements. WNIN reported that individual projects would require public and private funding, with no specific timeline for each component.
Keep the Two Park Areas Distinct
Some proposed improvements concerned the larger Wesselman–Roberts area. For example, reforestation of the former par-three golf course was part of the broader vision, not an existing feature entirely within Roberts Park.
The planning reports linked here date to 2022–2023. Check current city information for later decisions, construction, closures, or completed improvements.
