Mosquitoes are flying insects found around the world. Not all mosquito species bite humans.
Feeding
Male mosquitoes feed on plant nectar. Female mosquitoes also feed on nectar, and blood-feeding females obtain blood from a host.
During blood feeding, the female introduces saliva containing substances that help prevent the blood from clotting.
Finding a Host
Mosquitoes use a combination of visual cues, odors, and warmth to locate hosts.
