What is Geocaching ?
Geocaching involves finding items which are hidden in public parks, woods, and other
public areas by following GPS coordinates downloaded from the Internet. Geocachers use
hand held global positioning systems to guide them to the hidden items.
I've
created this site as an addition to Southern Indiana Trails. Geocaching
is a great way to spend time outdoors with your family or by yourself.
I've added a few links to guide you, but you can pretty much find all
the info you need at Geocaching.com or
Groundspeak Discussion Forum.
We
are working on 5 micro caches and 2 regular caches. You can view them
here soon. All of our caches will be located in the Evansville and
Henderson area.
If you are looking to purchace a GPS unit, I highly recommend
the Garmin Etrex
Some may refer to it as "The Yellow One". It provides everything needed
to get you from point A to point B. It's a great entry-level GPS that's
perfect for beginners. Its small, compact size, makes it ideal for
hikers. You can find them at any retail store like Walmart.
If you already own this unit you can view the manual online here.
.
Also
check out the aforementioned sites for other GPS manufacturers such as lowrance and magellan.
Thank you.
